DeepL now with desktop apps (beta)

So far, however, you could only use the website for this purpose. Now there are beta versions for Windows and macOS for desktop programs, which should allow quicker translations thanks to shortcuts. Marcel has tested the Mac app with him once and described the functionality in this blog along with a few screenshots. Below, I also listed the download links for both variants.

DeepL: online translator gets desktop app for Mac and Windows

When translating sentences or whole texts from language X to language Y, many rely on Google Translate. But certainly not because it is the best tool of its kind, but rather because of its fame. The online service DeepL from German companies, whose developers are also responsible for the translation database Linguee, provides significantly better results . "Significantly better" is even mildly understated, because even with coherent texts DeepL is miles ahead of Google and Co. Perfect are the translations of longer texts certainly not, gross blemishes are rare and thanks to machine learning (here no bullshit bingo) continuously incorporate optimizations in the translations.

So far, however, DeepL was only available as an online application, and texts had to be copied back and forth in a comparatively cumbersome way via copy and paste. Translations are now a bit more comfortable with the recently released desktop app for Windows and Mac. The software stays in the background after the start and will only be displayed after you have selected a text in any application and pressed twice the shortcut "Copy" (Ctrl + C for Windows, ⌘C on the Mac). D he finished translation can either copy or subsequent  insert directly to the site of the original text. If available alternative translations are displayed, as well as you can fade in by clicking on a word synonyms or reformulations.

In addition to free use, the software can also be linked to a DeepL Pro account. There are a couple of benefits such as unrestricted use without character limits, full document translations, access to an API for integrating CAT tools, and increased data protection. Because: Only in the case of a subscription from 5,99 € per month, your texts are treated confidentially and deleted immediately after translation. With free use your texts are used to the improvement of the service. Is not different with the relevant translators from Google and Microsoft / Bing - only that there are sensitive solutions for sensitive users and companies. And now please have appropriate apps for iOS and Android.
